Editorial Methodology
For clinicians, researchers, journalists, and anyone who wants to understand exactly how we work.
Core principle
Every clinical claim on SlimBee is based on a cited primary source. We do not make claims we cannot reference. We acknowledge uncertainty clearly. We update content when evidence or guidance changes. We never allow commercial relationships to influence what we publish — because we have none.
Source hierarchy
We evaluate evidence according to a clear hierarchy, and only make claims that our source hierarchy supports:
- Primary research — peer-reviewed randomised controlled trials (RCTs), observational studies with large sample sizes, and systematic reviews. For weight-loss medications, we prioritise SURMOUNT programme papers (tirzepatide), STEP programme papers (semaglutide), and related head-to-head analyses.
- Regulatory guidance — NICE technology appraisals, MHRA product information and safety updates, NHS clinical protocols.
- Professional guidelines — RCGP, British Obesity Society, Association for the Study of Obesity, and equivalent UK clinical professional body guidance.
- Expert consensus — where RCT evidence is absent or limited, clearly labelled as expert opinion only.
We do not cite: non-peer-reviewed articles, press releases, commercial company materials as clinical evidence, or social media posts. Where we quote a clinical claim, the source is cited inline. Reference lists are available on request.
Evidence grading
We use an in-house simplified grading system, displayed where relevant in articles:
| Grade | Label | Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| ★★★★★ | Strong evidence | Large RCT(s) with robust methodology, published in peer-reviewed journal, directly relevant to the claim |
| ★★★★☆ | Good evidence | Smaller RCT or well-designed observational study; or systematic review of moderate-quality RCTs |
| ★★★☆☆ | Moderate evidence | Case series, professional consensus, or guidance-body recommendation without strong RCT basis |
| ★★☆☆☆ | Limited/emerging evidence | Small case reports, mechanistic inference, preliminary findings |
| ★☆☆☆☆ | Theoretical / Expert opinion | No direct clinical evidence; based on biological plausibility or expert opinion only |
Author qualifications
All clinical content is written by medical writers with healthcare qualifications or formal training in health journalism and clinical communication. The lead clinical writer, Dr Priya Kaur, holds a medical degree and a PhD in pharmacology.
Medical review process
Every clinical article is reviewed by our Medical Director,
Update policy
All clinical content is reviewed quarterly, or immediately following:
- Publication of a new NICE technology appraisal or guidance update affecting the content
- MHRA safety alert or product information update
- Publication of a major RCT that materially affects the evidence base
- NHS guidance change affecting UK access or eligibility
When content is updated, the "last reviewed" date is updated and any substantive changes are noted with a visible "Updated [date]" notice on the page. We do not update the "last reviewed" date as a cosmetic SEO exercise — it reflects a genuine review.
Corrections policy
If we identify or receive notification of a factual error:
- We correct the error as quickly as possible, typically within 24–48 hours of confirmation
- We add a clearly visible correction notice to the affected page, stating what was corrected and the date
- We do not silently delete or alter content to avoid accountability
- For significant errors, we notify newsletter subscribers
To report an error: corrections@slimbee.co.uk — we will acknowledge within one working day.
